JABA Provides Free Legal Clinic at LAFLA

The JABA Community Education Committee held a free legal clinic on June 9, 2012. The Legal Aid Foundation generously hosted this event. The volunteer attorneys assisted approximately 30 clients over a wide variety of legal issues including family law, estate planning, bankruptcy, immigration, landlord-tenant, employment, debt collection, and consumer law. JABA thanks the hard-working members and friends who participated, including Bert Kawahara, James Widmondt, Nathan Watanabe, Marty Tachiki, JP Fritz, Mark Furuya, Makiko Meyers, Noi Suzuki, Ann Kim, Joann Lee, Randi Akasaki, Bryan Reynolds, Akiko Yoshikawa, Kanako Blondet, Fuyuki Hamaguchi, Christina Salvato, Kenji Terajima, and Akiko Wakaiki. Fuyuki Hamaguchi, a law student and frequent volunteer, explained why she participates at the clinics: “I always look forward to the legal clinics because I enjoy helping people in need of legal assistance and working with the volunteer attorneys. The attorneys at the clinics allow me to gain valuable experience and provide me with exposure to diverse areas of the legal field. They are great role models.” The Committee plans to hold the next clinic in Gardena.
